Lucknow: A 30-year-old woman was detained after her former husband died following an alleged assault with a tawa during an argument at her residence in Lucknow’s Jankipuram area, police said.
The incident reportedly took place on Thursday when the man, identified as Soni and a resident of Ashiyana, visited the house of his former wife, Tapasya Singh, in Kaushalya Garden. According to police, an argument broke out between the two over an issue, following which Singh allegedly struck Soni on the head with a griddle.
Soni sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to a trauma centre in Jankipuram. He was later referred to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) for advanced treatment, where he died, police said.
The police have detained Singh and are questioning her as part of the investigation. Officers said evidence is being collected and the circumstances leading to the incident are being examined.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said a case will be registered after receiving a complaint from the deceased’s family.
